Flyers History

The Foster City Flyers Asian Basketball Organization (“Flyers”) was informally created by two friends in 1999. They perceived a need and desire for tournament-level basketball teams in the Foster City-San Mateo area. They organized a group of 9th grade boys in the San Mateo-Foster City area to play in tournaments in 1999. Today, the Flyers organization stretches its reach:

  • To provide tournament-level basketball to several young people of the San Francisco Bay Area who are of Asian and Pacific Rim descent, and,
  • To enhance their basketball skills while cultivating good sportsmanship, teamwork and camaraderie in the players through competitive basketball.

Each year, the Flyers expect to field a pair of boys and girls teams from the 5th to the 12th grade.

Fiscal Year

The Flyers fiscal year (including practices and tournaments) begins on September 1st, pauses from November through February, resumes in March of the next year and continues through August 31st.  The goal is not to conflict with NYBA, high school, or middle school basketball seasons.
